Zaka Ashraf, most likely to be the next chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said he was against the hybrid model for Asia Cup 2023 from the very first day.
Ashraf said that the hybrid model is not a ideal situation for Pakistan.
"I had already rejected hybrid model for the Asia Cup. It is an injustice to Pakistan. It is not right to hold main matches outside Pakistan. Being the hosts, the complete event should take place at home," he said while speaking at a local event in Islamabad today.
PCB's management committee, led by Najam Sethi, had proposed hybrid model for Asia Cup after India refused to travel to Pakistan.
After a lot of hiccups, the hybrid model was approved by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). According to the approved hybrid model, first four matches will be played in Pakistan before the event moves to Sri Lanka where nine matches, including the final, will take place. The tournament will be played from August 31 to September 17.
